What would it take to cover the software?

Put in what a job is worth to you and what you keep on it. The answer comes back as a share of one job's margin — not a sales pitch, just your figures against our published price.

Paid out of margin rather than turnover — a subscription costed against turnover looks cheaper than it is by whatever the job costs to deliver. Prices are Vento's published monthly rates.

Why margin, not turnover

A £4,000 install is not £4,000 of yours. Take out the units, the pipework, the fixings and the labour and what is left — the gross margin — is the only money that pays for anything else, including software, the van, and you. Costing a subscription against turnover makes it look cheaper than it is by exactly the amount the job cost to deliver, and that is the sum that gets a tool cancelled in month three when the real cost turns up.

So this calculator asks for your margin and answers in jobs. If a plan costs less than a twentieth of what you make on one install, that is a different conversation from “£49 a month”.

Frequently asked questions

How many jobs do I need to win to pay for air-con software?

Fewer than most installers expect, because a subscription is paid out of margin on work you are already doing rather than out of new work. On a £4,000 job at 30% gross margin you make £1,200. A £49/month plan is about 4% of a single job's margin — roughly one job every two years would cover it outright. Put your own figures into the calculator above.

Why does the calculator use gross margin instead of turnover?

Because turnover is not yours to spend. A £4,000 job at 30% margin leaves £1,200 after materials and labour, and that is what pays for anything. Costing a subscription against turnover makes it look cheaper than it is by whatever the job costs you to deliver, which is exactly the arithmetic that gets software cancelled three months later.

What does Vento cost?

Starter is £49/month for one seat, Professional £149/month for three, Business £299/month for five. Extra seats are £25/month. Every plan includes a 14-day free trial with no card required. The calculator uses these published prices.

Does this calculator assume the software wins me more work?

No, and deliberately. It only compares what a plan costs against the margin you already make on a job. Nothing on this page claims a conversion-rate or win-rate improvement — that would need evidence we would have to put in front of you, and the arithmetic stands without it.
