Boiler Upgrade Scheme

Could be eligible for £2,500

Taken off your installer's quote up front.

  • Ask your installer whether they are MCS certified for this technology, with an approved consumer code (RECC, HIES or MCS:2025) — only they can apply.

What the checker looks at

  • • Where you live — the scheme covers England and Wales only.
  • • Home or business — air-to-air heat pumps qualify for homes only.
  • • Heating, not just cooling — the grant is for heating your home.
  • • What it replaces — it must fully replace gas, oil, LPG or electric heating that doesn't include a heat pump.
  • • The whole home — the heat pump must meet all the space heating on its own.
  • • One grant per property — and no previous grant at the address.
  • • Your installer — MCS certified for the technology, with an approved consumer code (RECC, HIES or MCS:2025).

Frequently asked questions

Does air conditioning qualify for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

Air conditioning that heats your home — an air-to-air heat pump — does, in England and Wales, since 28 April 2026. It can get a £2,500 grant if it replaces your existing gas, oil, LPG or electric heating and is fitted by an MCS-certified installer. Air conditioning used only for cooling doesn't qualify.

Who applies for the grant, me or the installer?

Your installer. They must be MCS certified for the technology, with an approved consumer code (RECC, HIES or MCS:2025). They apply for the voucher, take the grant off your quote and are paid by the scheme. Ofgem contacts you to confirm you agree.

Can I get the off-gas-grid uplift with air conditioning?

No. The £1,500 uplift for homes heated by oil or LPG applies to air-to-water and ground source heat pumps only, so an air-to-air system stays at £2,500.
