Vento vs Heatpunk
Heatpunk is a UK heat pump design and quoting tool for installers and designers, from Midsummer. Heatpunk does room-by-room heat loss and air-to-water heat pump design to MCS standards — radiator and underfloor sizing, flow temperature and hot water — with a free tier and MCS documents built in. Vento overlaps on room-by-room sizing but is built around air conditioning and air-to-air heat pumps: split and multi-split design, refrigerant pipe routing, F-Gas and the job management after the sale.
Heatpunk and Vento overlap in places and not in others, so the table below says which. A "Yes" for Heatpunk is something its own website advertises; "Not advertised" means we couldn't find it there, not that it can't be done. Confirm current details on Heatpunk's website.

Two tools that overlap at the heat loss
Heatpunk is a heat pump design tool. It takes a floor plan, works out the heat loss room by room to MCS standards, and sizes the wet system — radiators or underfloor heating, flow temperature and hot water — then produces the documents an MCS installation needs. It has a free tier, which is a large part of why so many installers use it.
Vento is built around air conditioning and air-to-air heat pumps. It also runs a room-by-room heat load, but what follows is a split or multi-split design, condenser placement and refrigerant pipe routing on a scaled drawing, then a proposal the customer signs, the deposit, and the job management and F-Gas records after that.
When Heatpunk is the better choice
If your work is air-to-water heat pumps for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, you need a heat loss calculation and design that stands up as part of an MCS design pack. That's what Heatpunk is built for. Vento does size air-to-water systems — emitter output at your flow temperature, the cylinder and a system schematic — but it is a simplified estimate for scoping and quoting, not a replacement for a full MCS heat loss. We say so on the job screen too.
When Vento is
If you install air conditioning, or air-to-air heat pumps under the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, the design is a refrigerant system rather than a wet one: indoor units matched to each room's load, a condenser that can serve them, and pipe runs that stay inside the manufacturer's limits. That's the work Vento's multi-split design is built around, and the F-Gas register follows the same system after it's installed.
Some firms fit both. Using a dedicated wet heat pump tool for air-to-water jobs and Vento for air conditioning is a reasonable setup. Vento's pricing is published: from £49 a month, or the Professional plan at £149 for 3 seats. See the full pricing.
Frequently asked questions
Does Vento do air-to-water heat pump design like Heatpunk?
Partly. Vento sizes air-to-water heat pumps with a simplified MCS-style room-by-room heat loss, emitter output at the design flow temperature, cylinder sizing and a system schematic. It is a scoping and quoting estimate, not a full MCS heat loss for the design pack — for that, a dedicated tool such as Heatpunk is built for the job.
Does Heatpunk design air conditioning?
Air-to-air and multi-split air conditioning design isn't something Heatpunk's website advertises — its focus is wet heat pump systems. Confirm with them if it matters to you.
Can I use both?
Yes, and plenty of mixed firms would. Use a wet heat pump design tool for air-to-water jobs and Vento for air conditioning and air-to-air heat pumps, including the proposals, F-Gas records and job management.
Where Vento differs from Heatpunk
- Air conditioning, not only wet systems — Split and multi-split design, condenser placement and refrigerant pipe routing on a scaled drawing — the air-to-air side a wet heat pump design tool isn't built around.
- F-Gas from the same job — Every installed system carries its refrigerant, charge and CO₂e, with leak checks scheduled and a refrigerant register.
- The job after the sale — Dispatch, stock, invoicing, service plans and a customer portal on the same record as the design.
